President Message

Mr. Upendra H. Sheth

Prime minister Narendra Modiís first visit on 27th June in White House with US President Donald Trump after he resumed office as US President is continuation of where he left off with previous Obama administration.

India has been designated as major US defence partner and bilateral trade stands at $115 billion with expectation scaling it up to $ billion 500.

On the eve of the summit of two leaders, US Defense Secretary-General James Norman Mattis gave a statement that we recognize India, the most populous democracy and as a major defense partner. It tells something about how the bilateral relationship will proceed on the strong foundation built over a more than a decade.

A summary of the US-India priorities for the next few years is:

Combating terrorist threats, promoting stability across the Indo-Pacific region, increasing free and fair trade and strengthening energy linkages. Modi

Trump era signals strategic synergy and common goals to boost robust bilateral ties between India and the US. From the Presidentís Desk As the Modi Government completes three years in office, it is useful to look at impact of several policy initiatives taken by the Government.

Corruption and black money are top most priority of the Government. Demonitization and corruption are two strikes against corruption and black money. The Government has brought in economic stability and the country is known as fastest growing economy. The Government has taken several measures to improve the ease of doing business.

One of the most structural reform, The GST (One Tax, One Nation, One market) has finally become reality and has come into effect from 1 July, 2017. Demonetization was another structural reforms of the Modi Government. Among other policy initiatives by the Government, bankruptcy law would be a game changer in the long run.

Indo American Society celebrated 59th Founders day at Garware Club Auditorium on 26 June, 2017 with great enthusiasm. It was a grand success. It was attended in large numbers by IAS members and the same was highly appreciated.

Upendra Sheth
